Longrange has a position available for an “Experienced Shepherd General”.

The Farm

Longrange is a 2,755 effective hectare sheep and beef breeding and finishing property, with a maternal sheep stud. The contour of the land ranges from gentle rolling land to large steep paddocks. There are 10,500 breeding ewes and an Angus cow herd of 600.

The property is well fenced with great infrastructure and uses modern tools, well-maintained gear, and technology for a large breeding operation. Longrange is at the forefront of environmental works with 6 QEII Blocks, extensive native retirement, wetlands and riparian planting.

Longrange is located in Omakere, Central Hawkes Bay, approximately 30 minutes from Waipukurau, 5 minutes from Blackhead Beach and 55 minutes from Havelock North and Hastings. The Omakere Primary School and Playcentre are a 10 minute drive away.

About You

You will be an honest, energetic, good natured individual who will work well in a team environment and has respect for livestock and equipment. You will need a team of 4 broken in working dogs and have at least 2 years shepherding experience. Horse riding experience would be beneficial as a lot of stockwork is done on horseback plus have your own saddle and tack.

The successful application needs to have a great work ethic, be self-motivated, tidy and trustworthy.
